Hydrotherapy

What is hydrotherapy?

Hydrotherapy, also called aquatic physiotherapy, uses the support of warm water so you can move parts of your body that feel too painful or too weak to exercise on land. The water carries much of your weight, which takes load off sore joints, while gentle resistance helps you rebuild strength.

At Epstein Hunt Physiotherapy our pool is heated and private, so sessions feel calm and unhurried. Every programme is led by an HPCSA-registered physiotherapist and tailored to your assessment, never a generic class.

Aquatic sessions are led by physiotherapists trained for the water, including Perla Epstein (WABA certified) and Sasha Hunt. Meet the team.

The water advantage

What a session in the water feels like.

You do not need to be able to swim. You stand in warm, chest-deep water with your physiotherapist beside you. The warmth loosens tight muscles, the buoyancy carries most of your weight, and movements that hurt on land begin to feel possible again.

36 degrees, all year

The water stays warm through winter, so treatment never has to pause.

Steps, rails, assisted entry

Getting in is slow, supported and safe, whatever your mobility.

Two pools on site

The heated pool for therapy, and a cooler pool for later-stage conditioning.

Common questions

Good to know before you book.

Do I need to be able to swim?

No. Hydrotherapy is done standing and supported in water at a depth you are comfortable with, with a physiotherapist beside you the whole time.

What should I bring?

Comfortable clothing, your medical aid details, and any referral letter or scans if you have them. For the pool, bring swimwear and a towel; we have clean change rooms on site.

Can I claim from my medical aid?

Yes. We bill all major medical aids directly. What your plan covers depends on your scheme and benefits, and we will gladly help you check before you start.

How much does a session cost?

We charge medical aid rates and bill all major medical aids directly. You are equally welcome if you pay cash or card, and we will gladly confirm the rate for your session type when you book.

How long is a session, and are they private?

Sessions run 30 to 45 minutes and are one-on-one. Group classes are available on request.

How warm is the pool and how do I get in?

The hydrotherapy pool is heated to 36 degrees all year round, with steps, rails and assisted entry. A separate cooler pool is also available on site, and there is disabled parking at the door with wheelchair-friendly access.

What is your cancellation policy?

Sessions are one-on-one, so a missed slot cannot easily be offered to someone else. We ask for at least 24 hours' notice to cancel or reschedule, by phone or WhatsApp, and we'll gladly move your booking to a better time.

Is hydrotherapy safe for everyone?

Warm-water therapy suits most people, but a few conditions need extra care first, such as open wounds, skin infections, uncontrolled epilepsy or unstable heart conditions. We screen for these at your assessment and will recommend land-based therapy where that is the safer place to start.

Ready to move more freely?

Book an assessment and take your first supported steps in water heated to 36 degrees, all year round. After-hours appointments on request.
